The Mystique of Chartres Cathedral

by Andrew Hodges

The Mystique of Chartres Cathedral

Susan Hales said in one of her posts "Chartres Cathedral is one of the acoustic wonders of the world, a place where even whispers sound like angels."

I recently visited Chartres on lovely bright sunny summer's afternoon and having entered by a very quiet side door was trully awe-inspired firstly by the magnificence of the space within but then when the organ began to sound was bowled over by its impact as it filled the main chancel.

Chartres was the inspiration for Susan's book Sacred Space-Sacred Sound: The Acoustic Mysteries of Holy Places which was published by Quest Books in 2007.
